Volunteer With WET!
Are you willing to get more involved in
WET’s efforts to
protect the environment? You
may have an idea for an effort you would
like to see begun and not yet addressed. If

Currently we are
looking for volunteers to
join the Board and/or work in the following areas:
Environmental
Advocacy – help formulate WET’s positions on
environmental and growth
issues and present these views and the reasoning supporting them: in writing, speaking, or other means
before governmental bodies and public
or private forums.
To coordinate
the
Public Relations of WET, which will include setting up a system to
inform
the media of WET events, build relationships with media persons to
facilitate
publicity for WET events such as the film festival, paddles,
educational
programs, etc.
Membership –to
work
on a committee to formulate methods to increase WET membership and then
work,
with others, to implement them.
Volunteer
Coordinator
– WET frequently receives calls from college students to do
volunteer
service. This person would take those
calls and coordinate these volunteers with committees who are
sponsoring events
such as film fest, educational programs, fairs and festivals, etc.
A Bluebird Box
Build
– To coördinate annual one-day construction of bluebird
boxes for sale at
festivals. We have plans for building
the boxes. Funds raised will help
support WET activities.
Represent WET at
festivals and fairs - Festivals such
as the Shad and Salisbury Festivals in April, Earth Day at the Zoo, Triathlon, etc. We
need persons to work at tables at one or the other of each of these and
other events.
To attend
meetings of
the Planning and Zoning Commission – keep WET Board informed
on issues and
share WET concerns about new subdivision plats being considered as well
as
other issues being considered at their monthly meetings.
You would attend meetings of the Commission
and report to the WET Board.
To attend
meetings of
the County & City Councils – learn what is being
discussed at Council
that impact the environment and keep WET Board informed.
In turn, share WET concerns at Council
meetings. You would attend meetings of
the County or City Council and report to the WET Board.
To Plan and/or
Coördinate
outdoor events such as paddles, hikes, trips, etc.
This person(s) would work with others to
schedule events.
Program
Committee
that recommends, arranges and conducts periodic community meetings,
forums,
film series, and other topical events of interest to WET members and
the community
at large.
To join WET Adopt-a-Highway
team for occasional cleanups along county roads or parks. This
would mean
that one to five times a year (depending on your availability) spending
several
hours with the WET Highway
Clean Up team led by Paul Mysak.
Help with WET Newsletter
distribution – four times a year the WET Newsletters are
distributed
throughout the County. You would help
with distribute copies to locations convenient to you, e.g. post
offices,
schools, cooperating businesses, etc. .
